Owls in the Tree

Peek a Boo!!! Carlos found these owls in a hollow in a sycamore tree and we were lucky enough to see this. At one point Carlos ran back to his car and the owls stood up to see what he was doing and I got these other shots!!! Wow what an experience to see them in the wild!!!!!

Whos the cutest?

YOU ARE JOEY!!!!! MY baby!! I love you so much ......Joey wants you to see his birds.... He accompanies me when I bring in the feeder and has to smell each peg and then goes out with me to hang the feeder. He knows the difference between crows, doves,hummers, and these birds. He wont chase them he intently watches them. I think he is more interested in lizards!

Oh did I tell you we had a birds nest? these are the babies

They fledged the next day after I took these pictures, here you can see they were older but still had a little bit of down on his head.

And THEN they grow up to look like this!!!!!

I have seen the orange ones around but a yellow one showed up today!!! If you know what kind of birds these are and what the colors mean I would love if you could tell me!!!! I think they are finches?

A Little Scary Excitement Yesterday!!!

WE were having fun in the backyard yesterday and I kept hearing sirens, and more sirens and more sirens THEN the helicopter showed up!!! There was a fire in the canyon 2 blocks from my house!!!! The helicopter was flying so low I ran to get the camera! The helicopter was doing water drops for about 20 mins and the smoke smell filled my house but I saw no flames thankfully they put out the fire!!! Whew! The last picture is the street lamp and you can see how low the helicopter was flying!!!! We are ok!!!

What Ive been up to!

I had a friend visit from Roseville Ca, Caren. Seems Kealani fell in love with her and would follow her around everywhere!!!

We met up with Jill and went out to Skyhunters Ranch rehab facility and had a tour!!!!!!

And of course we saw Barn Owls!!!

I forgot which kind of owl this is but he was gorgeous

Beautiful Red tailed hawk! Did you know it takes actually a year befor a red tailed hawk gets his red tail feathers??? I didnt know that!

A kestrel that was caught as a baby and hand raised and in bad shape when he came to the rehab center. He cant be released into the wild.

Oh I finally caught a picture of one of Lucys owlets!!!!

This plant had a plethora of owl pellets which we gathered, They were awesome and you could see what the owls eat!!! The bones and skulls are in the pellets!!! We have gone out to Dennis's he has a box up and the owls names are Lucy and Ricky.
